Santa Maria de Blanes
We find references to the temple of Santa María de Blanes in documentation dating back to the year 974, but it is not until the 13th century that the temple, which has partially survived to this day, is built.
This Gothic-style church, consisting of a main nave and two side ones, was mainly financed by the viscounts of Cabrera, a powerful feudal house with extensive territorial control.
In July 1936, in the context of the Spanish Civil War, one of the most dramatic chapters in the history of the temple was written. An intense fire caused the building to collapse. The facade and the bell tower were the only structures that remained standing. In 1940, once the war was over, the reconstruction of the church began. The cost was partially covered by the initiative carried out by the Francoist government to rebuild the destroyed temples.

The entrance door to the Costa Brava
Costa Brava has its gateway in Blanes, more specifically on the rock of Sa Palomera.
Blanes is a culturally rich town, a source of inspiration for many writers and artists. If we let ourselves get lost in its streets, we can enjoy its elegant nineteenth century houses and some interesting remains of Catalan Gothic architecture, among which the fabulous fountain, built during the 15th century, stands out.
Every year, at the end of July, one of the most emblematic events in Blanes and the southern Costa Brava is held: the International Fireworks Competition. A spectacle with more than a century of tradition that brings thousands of people to the town's beaches every summer.
Blanes also has a wide range of water activities such as kayaking or paddle surfing, which allows us to get to know its beautiful seafront first hand.
